new to fiver

I'm getting my fiver in a couple weeks. When plugging into a 30 amp service at campgrounds, do most of you use your 50 amp cord, and adapt at the post, or do you adapt at the camper and use a 30 amp cord to the post?
Also if using a lube plate do you size it to your hitch plate size or pin box? Any other suggestions to check at delivery time? Haven't bought one in 12 years.

Regarding power connection, I've read it twice and you're saying the same thing. Sounds like you have 50 amp service for your FW. You'll adapt at the post if there's only 30amp connection, as we have at home. So we have a 30amp adaptor between our connection and the 50amp cord.

As for the lube plate, there are different thicknesses. Your hitch manufacturer, not pinbox, will recommend the size. That's how ours worked. If not you may have to try both and with it in place, your hitch should lock correctly. If it does not then you need the thinner one.
  • Ours is a 50 amp system. When we go to a campground that only has 30 amp, I have an adapter that plugs into the 50 amp socket on the trailer, and it has a 30 amp plug, so I use a 30 amp extension. I actually like this, the 30 amp cord is easy to handle. A 50 amp cord is very stiff. But if 50 amp is available, I use the 50 amp cord.
  • Unless lube plates are coming in different sizes since I last put 1 on--just put it on. My Arctic Fox came with a 30 amp 25 ft cord. If need be--I have a 50 amp adapter which plugs in to the 30 amp cord and 50 amp outlet. Check tire pressure--good idea to have metal valve stems instead of rubber-make sure everything works including gas stove and oven-fill your propane tanks if Dlr. didn't. Get a lock for the hitch pin arm--and make sure you use it-never happened to me but have heard stories of arm being pulled out while camper is in public lots or campgrounds. Not much fun taking off only to find your camper pin box in bed of your truck. I use a combination lock. Lars
  • If you have a 30 amp system your rv should come with a 30 amp cord... You should plug into the 30 amp socket. I have a 50 amp cord that came with my fiver and use the 50 amp socket at the campground. The one thing I recommend you getting is a surge protector.
