As others have said, using gooseneck adapters is generally not condoned due to excess stresses in the trailer pin box.
Since you have a short bed and you're concerned about clearance you can get the B&W 5th Wheel Companion Hitch which fits in your turnover ball receiver and has a built-in slider.
