New to toy haulers

Need help with the proper way to load our new toy hauler. We will be carrying two quads that weigh 1200 lbs. The garage area is rated for 3000 lbs. If I load them all the way forward we can't use either the door to the living area or the outside door to the garage. We also would lose the forward area for storage. My concerns are will we be ok if we keep the quads to the rear to open up the space forward. The trailer is a 386x12 being pulled by a 3500 dodge ram. We have towed very heavy 5th wheels for many years, just new to the toy haulers.
Thanks

  • My toyhauler has a garage so all the wgt of the toys is in the back. Thats why they install all the tanks in frt of the axles. You will never notice the diff. Make it work for you and get going.
  • Water in the holding tanks will make a much bigger difference than where you happen to park the quads. Put them where its convenient.
  • I agree with everyone. Load them whatever is easiest BUT DRIVE CAREFULLY!
  • Welcome to the toyhauler forum!!

I load mine the easiest & quickest way possible. No sense in making extra work, it can be a big enough pain to get everything else loaded & started down the road. When I loaded just 2 quads w/my old TH, I liked to leave enough space so I could open the inside garage door while loaded.
  • Ideally you would want the trailer loaded ready to roll, but I would think you would get a good enough idea either way. 2nd that! Don't forget to shut your gas off and don't top them off while in travel.

It won't matter. Load them however it works best for you

YUP, going to make very little difference in a 42 foot 5th wheel.
  • Welcome to RV.net and the Toy Hauler forum! I'm assuming that you have a Forest River Thunderbolt 386X12. Depending on tanks and other items you may not notice any difference of where you load your toys. With that size rig I doubt you will notice it, if you do there might be some chucking at the hitch, but doubtful.
  • It may or may not matter... I would load it up with them in the forward position and got to a scale, then weigh them in all the possible positions and see what the effect on pin weight is.
