New toy hauler ramp door!

I know that the repairs and such of ramp doors have been discussed here on this forum but I had an interesting conversation with a gentleman from Challenger Door Co. today. We discussed the purchase price of a new #3000 or #5000 door shipped to my doorstep. The #3000 door is probably standard on most haulers and he said its made with a heavy density foam in the center. The #5000 door is made with alum runners inside the door for strength. He said $1200-1500 for the #3000 door delivered and $1500-1800 for the #5000 door delivered. Both variations in price for each door I'm sure are for the different inside and outside finishes. They have both radius and square tops. From what he told me on the prices, there's no way I would try and tackle the rebuilding of an existing door unless I was bored and for sure had a place to keep in all inside while I worked on it. Just thought is was really a very affordable price for a new ramp door and thought I'd pass that info along. The company is located in Nappanee Indiana.
  • Not broken but the doors on both my haulers need replaced. Both have taken in water at some point, on one I've sandwiched the door on the hinge end inside and out with alum tread plate and that strengthened it up, the ramp on my Surge is showing water invasion and swelling near the hinge end also, and the metal on the back is rusting/corroding from the inside. So they both need replaced at some point in time.
  • I'm sure that shipping a door within the same state is worthwhile, but I wonder what it would cost to ship a door like that to either coast?
  • I was one of the people that discussed rebuilding a ramp door. I wouldn't have tackled the job for $1800 either, but I was quoted more like $2500 plus near $1500 shipping. I agree, I'd buy a 5k door for $1800 delivered too.
  • I'm assuming the shipping is built into the price somewhat, but If you have questions get on their website and get their # and give them a call. It might depend on supply and demand too as they may have a surplus of doors at this time, not sure because they build them to fit your hauler, I think color and all.
  • I have used Challenger Door for a part on my Livin Lite trailer, they are the best folks to deal with.
Check out this video of the strength of these doors.

Could not find the video with that info.
  • Sorry, I'm having trouble copying link.
Go to YouTube and search for ATC ramp door strength.
