New Truck 4x4 or 4x2 ??

If you don't have need for a 4x4 get the 4x2. In our area resale is much better for the 4x4. The 4x4 will lower your payload a small amount.
I will never have anything but the 4wheel drive but most of my life has been spent in mountain/snow country.

If you have no use for it you have no use for it. By some chance if you ever get stuck somewhere you'll just have to wait for a tow. I've towed our toy hauler off road a few times and never needed a 4wd.

I have only REALLY needed 4 wheel drive 4 or 5 times in the last 10 years. So I guess some would say I don't need it, and I could have saved money by not getting it.

But I think that having 4 wheel drive those 4 or 5 times was worth every bit extra that it cost. Plus you can't put a price on the peace of mind that comes with knowing you can get out of a slick spot when you need to...Jim

If you don't need it get the 4x2. I will say that my truck can get stuck on wet grass in 2wd. Where I live you will have a hard time finding a 2wd truck on any dealer lots,and if you was trying to sell one you would have a real hard time selling it.

Do yourself a big favor and get a F350 and skip the F250,it is all about payload. Even with a gas engine, you want as much payload as possible.

He's got a good point ESPECIALLY if you get a 250 diesel. Then you've got just as much payload as a 150. But you do need to check license fees some places like Cal. really hammer the 1 ton trucks.

ALL of my trucks are 4X4 because when they are not pulling an RV, they are pushing snow...

Even If I didn't plow snow, I would have 4X4 .. Only needed it 2-3 times, I look at it like insurance, don't like to pay it, but darn glad you have it when needed....

2 WD will hurt the resale or trade in. Around here, NE Florida, a dealer will have 80% 4WD trucks on the lot. His available 2 wd trucks will be less fancy, work truck models.. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a lariat Ford 250 in 2 WD.

My opinion a 4 wheel drive has better resale and if you ever get in to a place that just had heavy rain you could need it. If you plan on going up in the mountains buy a 4x4.

Let me give you a picture of Houston. If you stand on a 6' step ladder and look east, you can see New Orleans. If you look West, you can see Phoenix.
Basically, it is very, very flat.
That being said, you can't find a 250/350 - 2500/3500 within 100 miles with 4X2.
I am too old for boondocking and only tow a fifth wheel that we use in parks only. I would love to have a 4X2, but would have required either ordering from the factory or spreading out my search quite a bit.
There may have been 4X2 in the area, but the ratio in Houston area was less than 10%. Seems strange for a region that has no hills to speak of and rarely has ice on the roads.
