My wife is a city girl and I was raised 'boat people', the floating equivalent of RV's but with higher prices. I bought some lots partly within the Upper Delaware Scenic River etc. and I want to camp out there when I have time and think about what else to do there. My wife watched a lot of nature shows and she recognized the scratched-off bark on a tree (from 2 feet up to about 10 feet up) as being a bear sign, what bears do when they feel like it I guess. There are sugar maples there so maybe it was desert.
so we know there's bear there sometimes. The neighbors live in regular houses and are armed, going by the paper bull's eyes nailed to various trees, with holes in them.
A video of a guy in a shark cage type thing shows the bear knocking over the cage, spinning it around, generally testing its strength. The guy inside got scared, too.
So that's why I like the heavy utility design. I also want to have a part time cargo hauler. The jeep can carry a lot of gear but it doesn't work for construction materials. I'm not sure I can mix work & play on this, cement, sawdust & dirt being what they are. My alternative as I see it is to get a minivan but it won't carry much cargo, all wheel drive isn't much better than front wheel drive, and I bet I couldn't sleep in it either.
Right now I'm leaning towards a 5 foot cargo width and less than 20 feet overall, 1 3990 pound axle. I'd like to make living quarters that install for camping, come out for cargo duty, or make everything under counters & beds movable to the tops of counters & beds so the floor space could haul lumber, bricks or firewood.
So, is it possible? Does anybody make campers that slide onto utility trailers? I guess that's not strictly a toy hauler concept but it would be multipurpose.
