Norcold Refrigerator not cooling

Refrigerator stopped cooling. Checked the outside (back of unit) and the heating element is working. I noticed that the cooling fan in the rear is not running. My question is if the outside fan don't work will that prevent it from cooling?

    THANKS!

End of 2019 and 1st two months of 2020 were NOT pleasant to say the least.
Emergency bowel surgery....twice. 25 days in hospital being fed intravenously NOT recommended.

Finally got good enough to come home so doing MUCH better.
Still have 6 more weeks of 'healing' then get to go back to have 'innards' reconnected.

I don't post much any more but am still around.

    OP....
Via upper side wall you should be able to access that fan t-stat.
Jumper it out and check if fan runs.
  • Old-Biscuit is an expert in this field! I wondered what Norcold, I had issues with the 18 CUFT he helped me with. I also found a repair on the doors that did not close as it was supposed to.
  • old biscuit, glad you are still around! So many, the old timers like us either not here anymore or not here on earth. Glad to see you are still around.
  • Thanks, the fridge is in a slide out, will work on getting the fan to work.
  • If it has one of those little disc thermostats then it's probably blown. The one that came with my Norcold lasted one weekend. The next one held up longer but I replaced it with something better.
  • Fan is thermostatic controlled ----senses Condenser FIN temp (finned section at top of fridge)
That is where hot ammonia vapor is condensed into cool liquid ammonia.
Thermostat turns fan on at 135*F FIN Temp and off at 115*F FIN Temp

FINs only get hot when vapor is being generated/flowing thru cooling unit

IF Fins are HOT (indicates flow) then FAN NEEDS to be running.....if NOT cooling WILL be affected.
Bad thermostat/bad fan/blown fuse on DC to fan (DC to/thru t-stat then to fan)

FAN could be powered via separate DC line with 1A in-line fuse
FAN could be powered directly thru circuit board.

IF fridge is in a slideout......FAN Required
T-stat on FIN can be accessed via upper side wall vent/cover

Not in a slide out........harder to gain access
