Long term solution would be to have a pro weld it.

I would put a hole at each end of the crack to stop its spread and seal with Eternabond.

I'd repair it myself - at least the first try. I had to repair my water tank when it developed a tiny crack. The tank was designed with a ledge on 2 of the sides so that it could rest on a supports. Over time it developed a hole from the movement and banging (probably when the tank was empty) while driving. I used a heat gun (it gets soft quickly, so don't over heat it) and some pieces of poly (strips cut out from an empty clorox bottle) which I placed over the hole (crack) and melted into the tank. I then put eternabond along both ledges (as a padding when resting on the supports).

I fixed mine with a repair kit, specially made for this. the tanks are ABS. You might get by with some ABS glue and mesh.

I had a crack on top of one of my tanks that was hard to reach. I patched it with Eternabond tape and it held 3 or 4 years. It eventually got worse and I paid a shop to repair it (drill and weld). Their repair lasted less than a year.

I think if the crack is bad enough, you're better off biting the bullet and replacing the tank.

I found some stuff that's pretty good. WaterWeld by J.B Weld. It's an epoxy putty. It comes in a stick that you cut off what you need and kneed it until it changes color. Sticks to anything, good for water gasoline etc. As mentioned I'd drill a small hole at both ends of the crack....... Good luck.

A fresh water tank should be polypropylene that is only repaired by welding...?

ABS = holding tanks?

ABS is easy, get plasi-mend.

Polyethylene basically nothing will stick to it and you will need to heat to weld it.

If it's black like mine it's ABS. The poly tanks are white/greenish.

If it's black like mine it's ABS. The poly tanks are white/greenish.

They can be a lot of colors - mine poly tanks are black (slick to the touch).
