I had a crack on top of one of my tanks that was hard to reach. I patched it with Eternabond tape and it held 3 or 4 years. It eventually got worse and I paid a shop to repair it (drill and weld). Their repair lasted less than a year.
I think if the crack is bad enough, you're better off biting the bullet and replacing the tank.
