Hmm, it seems that it varies depending on the model. Onan's Diesel 6k/8k models do vary in speed, while their LP models don't appear to have this...
Diesel seems like a nice option. They run slower. They consume less fuel. However all is not wonderful. They are very heavy. Have a 6kw diesel in my boat. Runs at a constant 1800rpm. Weighs in at well over 300lb.
