Mine was original 2005 vintage. I decided to use my propane torch to test it. I did not light the torch only let the gas escape. The first time I just let out a little gas near the alarm and nothing happened. After several more attempts I gave it a good dose of gas and nothing. I could definitely could smell it. Needless to say that LP alarm is gone and a new one installed. I went with the same brand as what was installed.
