Onan Marquis Gold 5500 shuts down after 20 minutes

A mechanic friend says the 2 most common problems with an Onan are the fuel pump and carb. I am thinking of getting a spare pump, I have had good luck running stabilizer and the carb has not been a problem so far. Just bought some of the "blue marine Stabil", supposed to have 4 times the moisture protection. The fuel in the tank is left over from a January trip.
