I bought a tt one time I was going to fix up that had major water damage and lost title. It was going to be a major undertaking to get a title. I was able to sell it for parts and get my money back other then what it cost me to go get it.
If you want a project I would at least get a clear title. It may have a bunch of back taxes owed in order to get a title (may not apply to your state).
If you look around you can find used 5ers in decent shape for what you would have in materials and labor to fix one up.
