Optimum macerator hose length

Just installed a macerator on my 5th wheeler and wondering how long to make the dump hose(s). I haven't spent much time in rv parks around the country and don't know the average length usually required. I have 50 ft of 1" hose and will divide it into 2 pieces, one short which will be the main one, and one long which I don't think will often be used. Using banjo fittings. Maybe one at 18 ft and the other at 32 ft, or maybe 18 ft is too long for the short one? Any suggestions on better lengths?
Also when in a park, is there free enough flow through these units (when not on) to leave the gray tank(s) open the way you normally do with a standard 3" hose?
  • I have 2 50 ft hoses. Mine are the flat viynl type that rolls up into about 10" circle and reminds me of a fire hose. They work very well but you must not any kinks in it and make wide circles to change directions. The pump does not have a lot of pressure so if kinked it stays kinked. At home I use a 1" 50 foot garden hose. Works better but is so large and stiff. Hard to store.

I wouldnt use a macerator in a park with hookups. Macerators wear out and need rebuilding and cleaned periodically. It also takes much longer and requires more rinsing as the tanks drain so slowly.

I only use mine to dump far away and uphill.

To answer your question; probably a 15 and a 35.

    I carry a 100' 1" hose.

Agree on the periodic cleaning, although I've not had to rebuild mine in six years of light use only for dumping at home in to our septic tank cleanout. I have to use a 100 ft. hose for that and it runs slightly up hill, but the macerator handles it very well.
  • Maybe I have a problem then because it's permanently attached now. In looking at their design, guess I just assumed that gray water would flow through with only minor restriction, mainly from the reduction of 3" to 1". I mean with it not running. Haven't actually tried it yet though.
