Your payload is marginal. Start by subtracting hitch weight and tongue weight. How much is left for you, DW, dog etc.?

The only thing that could make it any better is if you have dual wheels for the sway. The engine and frame will be more than enough

Are you sure your truck doesn't have more like a 3000# load capacity?
I thought the later model Ram's had much more capcity than the 3 gens.

you need to calculate the numbers yourself but it looks like 1500#(tongue weight) of your 2000# payload is gone just by hooking it up dry. Throw some gear in the truck and additional people you will be over and the trailer is still empty. Load it with a few toys and you are over payload.

Looking at Yellow sticker in frame only have 2200# of available payload, I was thinking the same thing when I purchased last year since was originally looking for 5th wheel and figured 2500 can tow a 17k 5th wheel no problem well problem when only have the 2k payload.

First of all that's a very nice TT TH. Is that payload figure from the sticker or after having your tow vehicle weighed and subtracting that figure from truck's GVWR, payload just seems low for a newer 3/4 ton diesel. Unfortunately, in many cases payload capacity is usually exceeded well before GCVWR is reached.

One thing we noticed when we purchased our TT TH is that they have a much heavier tongue weight than standard TTs, our unit is not nearly as heavy but tongue weight is easily 1500#, we do tend to fill our fresh water tanks on most extended trips. Even with toys in the rear tongue weight doesn't deviate much.

It is going to be close as it pertains to payload, you stated you don't plan on carrying too much and that should help. Although stated dry weight is around 9500# for your Jayco, it will be close to 10K# with batteries, filled fuel station, and filled propane tanks. Depending on what else is brought along tongue weight will nearly consume all of your available payload.

Payload is from the sticker, I want to get weighed at some point but figured would do it when have the trailer loaded for going. I realize that payload is almost gone with a fully loaded trailer but is it an issue? I just feel like missing something because of reading all the forums and what is stated as a safe weight.

You should assume that your trailer will be loaded up to GVWR. Mine is even without water (19000). I believe in not exceeding ratings so I don't travel with water.

Well now see that Jayco has released the weights for the 2018 was wondering where everyone was getting their numbers that were different from mine, dealer stated weights would stay the same and of course they didn't they went up 600# dry so my previous numbers are off
GVWR - 12850# Fully loaded
15% - 1928#
13% - 1671#
10% - 1285#

so now only 2450# under GCWR

Will I be able to tow safely?

As most salesman will tout the pulling power not how much it can carry. By the time we figure the accurate toung weight and all the things we can’t live without in the bed of the truck we are often at or over the cargo cap of the truck.
