Our camping trailer came with the usual couch-which-folds-out-into-an-uncomfortable-bed.Hardly ever did any one sit on it, and the occasional sleep-over cursed the fact if they had to sleep on it a second night.It is big, takes up valuable room, and frankly it sucks.Out it went! Now the camper is much more open and livable, we store a queen-sized inflatable bed underneath (much more comfortable, and goes away when not in use) for the infrequent overnight guest.Shoulda done it years ago!

I have often thought about removing mine and replacing with recliners.

Good plan. I removed the bed from the couch and tossed it. That thing is not only uncomfortable it's heavy! I kept the couch frame, put a couple plastic bins in place of the bed (storage) which double as a seat support.

Did you put any kind of board, etc on top of the bins so the tops won't get broken?

Didn't keep any part of it in the camper. The resulting space now serves any purpose, such as put up a folding table for wife sewing, more room around the dining table when company comes, but mostly to give the living area a much more spacious feel.

You left out the word uncomfortable between usual and couch.

Now that's a good idea! If I were to buy another fiver I'd specify it same as you. I've never used the sofa bed in my couch and never will. It's just extra useless weight to haul around. It's mighty tempting to get rid of it and put some lighter piece of furniture in its place. Procrastinator that I am I'll probably not do it (soon). :B

Replacing the couch/bed with a couple of recliners sounded like a great idea. DW agreed. Our two boxer dogs said, "No Way, Jose!" That's where they sleep!

Wrenches and screwdrivers work quite well. If all else fails, a sawsall will do the trick. I onced used a sawsall to quarter the unibody of a Honda Civic, then hauled it off in my pick-up.

On our first rig (Cougar 274RKS) we hated, ABSOLUTELY HATED, the booth dinette. It is so much more convenient and flexible to have a moveable table and dining chairs! Especially with the goofy couch/bed gone.

No. The bin lids are pretty strong, I'm not heavy, and a board would make the cushion too high. It's already a bit too high.

After removing it from the sofa, I folded it up and held it together with cable ties. Then just rolled it out the door, and into the trash receptacle.
