A couple of years ago, Dash saved me and the pups from possibly getting bit. I was hiking with Dash and Lily (Molly hadn't yet joined our jolly household) on the Mount McConnell trail along the Poudre River in Colorado. We were approaching the end of the trail when Dash suddenly stopped and wouldn't go forward. I heard a noise, but didn't identify it as a snake. I looked at Dash again, and he was frozen on the trail, staring at a point ahead of us. I looked closely at the trail and, right where I would have stepped had we continued, was a coiled rattlesnake. I decided to back up and give it plenty of room until it slithered off the trail into the bushes. The thing is, Dash has never had the avoidance training, and had likely never seen a snake before, but he instinctively knew it was not to be approached. Smart dog!!
