Plugging 30A 5th wheel into 50A service

Will I have any problems if I plug my 30A fiver into 50A service at a RV park. I will not be drawing any more than 30A, but the park says I should pay $50 deposit to rent a "box" from them.

Just remember that you will have a 50 breaker feeding #10 30amp rated cable, so if you have a problem ahead of the trailers 30 main breaker, you could have an electrical fire risk. Chris

I've got a little usb box that charges my phone plugged into a 20 amp outet in the kitchen. The cable to my phone is 22 guage. Should I be worried?

But you can only draw 30A regardless of 50A service.....cause over 30A trailer main 30A breaker will trip and no more amp draw

Course what if.....50a receptacle shorted, or plug broke off or tree falls on power pedestal or squirrel chews on cord

This is a couple of photos showing what the RV50A(M) to 30A(F) Adapter does.

NOTE - Only ONE HOT zone of the 50A source is passed on to the 30A trailer connector.

I have seen these adapters available from WALMART and they are all BLACK verses the yellow as shown in the google photo. These are available from AMAZON as well.

Also a good idea to carry one of these adapters with you on the trips. Never know when the site only has 50A Service.

  • We stayed at a park in Silver city that loaned us an adapter so we could park in a 50 amp pull through.
  • 50 amp has two 50 amp circuits. It's the best way to run your 30 amp system.

Nope, just buy a "dogbone" adapter at Walmart. 50 amp has two 30 amp circuts but when you use the adapter you only use one, so no problem.[/uote]
    Thanks, that's what I thought
