Poll: do you use the comfort station?

Only time we have used them is when we are walking out and about and nature calls when too far from our RV. Handful of times in the last 8 years.

Of course we use them when we want to. Now you will find a foul one from time to time but it is not good business for a C.G to have nasty restrooms and we have seen very few in our travels. we also have seen many Rv'ers that do not use the RV bathroom and only use the C.G facilities saves money they say.....

The facilities in our Winter C.G are spotless and we have no problem in using them if we are nearby. The laundry facility is also spotless and we use them for large loads. There are also folks who never use their on board W/D as it saves money by using the C.G facilities.

We've been fulltiming for 18 years and have a 5th wheel. That said, it wouldn't matter what I owned, we bought our RV to have all the comforts of home. Especially my own bathroom and bed!
When we boondock, we do shower but have learned how to conserve water. When we boondock that is the only time I use plastic plates and glasses which means little cleanup. It doesn't take long to learn shortcuts so save water so we can still have our cake and eat it too. Hugs, Di

I replied to your question on the Class A thread, but I'm going to reply again here because it's a valid question and others here may also be curious...

There is an RV park reviews site that I check when looking for a campground. For years I've wondered why most of the bathroom/comfort station ratings were posted by people in motorhomes. The site asks reviewers to state what type of RV they camped in. I'm beginning to wonder if reviewers on that site are simply not changing the default (Motorhome) to what they're actually camping in. The differences in respondents between my question on the two threads here on RV.net seems nil.

...and I replied to this statement in your motorhome post suggesting that if I was giving a serious rating in a review on a campground but not using the showers, I would at least go in and inspect them. If you see that a reviewer rated them bad or excellent I would welcome that review even if he just looked at them and not used them. The ratings don't show if the person used them or not.

We don't go by everything stated in the review sites. We weed out the very bad reviews and the very good reviews and then judge for ourselves if we want to stay there. Giving a bad review because of not getting satellite or because it was muddy and raining or the neighbor was noisy is not a review to me. It's a complaint of things that I can live with and that's how I'll weed them out.

If we have full hookups we will use our shower but igpf we stay at the lake no sewer hookups. The kids take their showers at the bath house as they take loooong showers the wife and I will usually use ours.

I'll use the campground shower in order to save water for DW's shower. I want her to smell good too.

We use the campground facilities except at night. As many have posted, we use state parks and almost never have full hookups.

Back when fuel and cheap the purchase price of MH's was reasonable and the insurance fair priced there were about as many MH's as TT's with there being less 5th wheels as it was a new type of RV in CG's. Today, TT's and 5th wheels easily outnumber MH's in CG's about 2+ to 1 each. In National Parks more than 3 to 1. That's what we see in the eastern, southeastern, and midwest states.

As for using CG bathrooms and showers, it depends. National Parks and many state parks around the country have no hookups but decent bathouses, or electric only, or water and electric. Duh! When the gray water tank is full, it's full, so what good does water at the site do without having a sewer to dump in? Dumb! We use what ever is best in what area or CG depending on how clean the bathouse is and yes, we are fussy. Some states are very demanding about showers and bathrooms and constantly inspect the bathouses while other states couldn't care less and the average bathouse is putrid at best and usually stinks.

Our home state is extremely fussy so yes, we will use them but not very often in the southern states. Some bathouses are very modern, tiled, and kept extremely clean and why not use them if desired? Not constantly or only but when the situation favors them.

For instance: The bathouses at Platte River CG in Sleeping Bear Dunes National lakeshore Park bathouses put most home bathouses to shame and they are cleaned and disinfected 3+ times a day as we see it done so what's the issue as to using them?
