portable floor A/C

Purchased a LG 12000 BTU floor model A/C for our fiver. Given the 120 degree heat when leaving AZ recently, we thought the trailer A/C could use a little help.

Ducted the LG through vertical window at trailer entrance. Unit fits like a glove and surprisingly cools efficiently. LG will cool up to 400 sq.

We plug unit in with a heavy duty extension cord to electric service pedistal.

This evening in southern Oregon temp is 100 degrees with humidity.

Glad we made the purchase. (We are aware of the negative history on these units)
  • These things should =come= with an insulated exhaust duct. :/

Doesn't really make that much difference since the blower is sucking HOT air into other parts of the structure all the time.
  • Thanks Kevin for the pointer. Makes sense. The unit does exhaust a lot of heat out the window along with a very warm hose.

  • IF.....you have a single hose unit....they have a deceptively LOW efficiency overall.

Why ? Because the air that the unit exhausts OUT of that one hose has to be replaced inside the structure with air coming IN somewhere else. In your example, that replacement air that is sucked in through small cracks throughout the structure is at 120 F.

That infiltrating HOT air makes your main unit run even more.

A single hose portable unit is a cruel joke.
  • I bought one of those for my Moms 1200 sq/ft house that was built in the early 60's. It did an amazing job!
