portable waste pump

Bought a Flojet portable rv waste water pump, I want it to be a fully portable installation. I would like if possible to connect it to the 12v adaptor of my power pack, the only 12v male connector that I have found so far is rated at only 5amp, will this be enough, I don't think so myself. Is there bigger ones? Electricity is not my friend :h

  • The device should have a label on it, or a website or manual should tell you how many amps it is. If it's like my macerator, no, 5 amps won't cut it.

I connect the very short wires coming off the macerator directly to a battery with large alligator clips.
  • Not nearly enough, requires a 20 amp circuit if I remember correctly.

    X2

Use #10 AWG wires. I used red and white (red hot/white ground). Works great and plenty of voltage.
  • I bought a cheap jumper cable set (think its 8 or 6 wire), cut off 2 ends and soldered the cables to the wires. They easily reach to the battery compartment and pumps it out fast. Then, put it all away in a plastic box for the next time.

Are you referring to the link I posted? it is rated at 20 Amps
  • Most of these portable RV macerators (including the Flojet) use a similar type of motor. Typical current draw is 12 amps. Concur with others who recommended a 20 amp fuse. Definitely do not want to plug one of these macerators into a cigarette type 12 volt adapters. These are only rated for 7-8 amps max. On my rig I ran a dedicated wire/cable (fused) directly from my battery to the sewer drop area to run my external portable water pump and macerator when dry camping.
