Hi All,I was wondering if I could tap the brain trust for any info on premium bunkhouse fifth wheels. We are going to be first time RVers (My wife, and two children) and we would really like to find a premium bunkhouse 5th wheel.... but we are not finding much. The bunkhouses we see are all mid-profile 1/2 ton towable types. There is nothing wrong with this type... but we really want the premium interiors, features, etc which equal more weight. We would like to stay at or below 40 feet so we have access to a larger number of parks. I have found DRV has a couple on the 43-44ft range... I would love a New Horizons custom build but I feel like I need additional experience before custom building something. We are not opposed to very well keep used.... but we would prefer to purchase new.I would love to hear of any brands/makes/models that you are aware of. Thank you for your help and input!Jeremy

Many of the bunkhouses are 14K/3K lb. dry weight units. As a beginner in fifth wheels, I bought a Grand Design 323BHS which weighs 12K/2K--the max for my 3/4 ton diesel. I didn't want to haul one of The Incredible Hulks--which is what many bunkhouse models are.It's just as nice a trailer as I need, and we just love the outside kitchen. Our dealer and their GD sales rep had it to me 3 weeks from ordering, as I wanted that SuperSofa option--12' of couch/2 loveseats together.

There are many mid priced mid profile bunk house fifth wheel models at the 12k or so weight. Most require a 1 ton single rear wheel truck to tow with. Once you move up to a "premium" bunk house model and there are several out there; you will be looking at 15k weight. This will require the right tow vehicle (1 ton dually) area. I recommend taking a look at some toy hauler models. The garage on many also serves as a bunk room. Again, watch the weights and make sure you consider what you have or plan to purchase to tow with.

Thank you all for the feedback so far I really appreciate it. A couple of notes. Towing capacity is not an issue. We can tow 28,900lbs with a pin weight approaching 6k.I had not thought of KZ. Anyone out there with a Stoneridge 39BH? :-)We were originally thinking a TH... but our children are young and we wanted a more "indoor type bunk until they get a little older.We have actually looked at the Grand Designs bunkhouse twice now. We really like that 5th wheel with a couple of exceptions and thus far they have been deal breakers. Small fridge and no washer/dryer prep. A couple of sets of friends of ours in their trailers/motorhomes wish they had a bigger double fridge and a washer and dryer. I wish Grand Design would come out with a Solitude BH...BTW if your 3/4 ton diesel is limited to 12/2k then you may be overweight with the 323BHS as the GVWR is 13,995 per GD's website.

We have a heartland bighorn 37qb, it is 40' long with gvw of 15 k. There are 2 bunks/ 4 beds in bunkhouse with its own half bath that also has door to outdoors. We love the outdoor kitchen and have been very happy with unit other than 2 cracks in the skin above slideouts in bunkhouse. Heartland refused to repair because it was a few months out of warranty.

Trilogy by Dynamax also now puts out a bunk house model, have not seen one but they do make a nice unit.

we just purchased a Wildcat 337FB because of the size of the bunks 7', located in the front bedroom. being on the tall size, we needed as much room for myself (6'5") and our daughter (6'2") with some room to grow. The front bunkroom has a couch that folds out to a queen sleeper and provides a private area for our daughter and her friends. the rear 'master' is also a nice feature in that we have plenty of storage and the standard 'queen' sized bed is large enough for the wife and i to rest comfortably.

now i wouldn't consider the Wildcat brand a 'premium' brand however, they do a decent job with the features for the $. good luck with the search!

When I contacted NuWa, they said that they had a design for a bunkhouse on their computers but it had a $70k price tag. It was a bit out of my price range, so I didn't pursue it.

Otherwise, the Sabre is a good mid-level brand and I'm happy with mine.

Nuwa did make a bunkhouse, a few years back now. It was in their Discover America series.

I had a silverback bunk house and was a great 5er. Then last year we switch to a toy hauler and that seems to work out better for us. We have a 9 year old girl and twin boy and girl @ 4.

Whats nicer about the th is we now have 2 queen and 1 king beds plus a bunk we currently aren't using. So when then get a little older everyone will have there own beds.

During the day we raise the beds in the back and I put extra padding and a quality carpet ( not the 1 that comes with a th) down. the kids are happy playing back there when the weather is bad.
