I'm not sure how much gravel we actually got hit with - BUT - we happened to drive through Montana and lower Canada during butterfly season - there were millions of them flying around, and they were causing cars/trucks to overheat by blocking the radiators!! Crazy! But the screen behind our grille protected the radiator, and every time we stopped for fuel, I'd take an old toothbrush and brush off the dead butterflies.
