Problem with B&W Hitch

Did you put the pin for the handle in the position that holds the hitch handle open?

YUP, I recommend using the 1/8" slip plate from Hensley so it's easier to "SEE" when the weight is off the hitch. With the 1" this jaws it's harder to see the clearance.

B&W is NOT like other hitches. Closest thing is Hensley. So you have used one of these???

Part of the reason people have trouble with the B&W hitch is part of the reason it's such a good hitch. It simply won't release if there is any pressure on the jaws. So If you're having issues with it not releasing, you've not relieved the pressure from the jaws.

If you have problems, pin the handle open, back up, then pull forward, problem solved. FWIW I've never had to do that in 8 years, but I have had to make sure the hitch was unloaded though.

With my B&W I normally just gently pull the lever and the truck rolls ahead slightly and I'm released. If there is no tension on the hitch when I pull the lever I have two options:
1. I can close the lever, put the truck in drive to put a little tension on the pin, then put transmission back in park and repull the hitch release lever, or
2. I can pin the hitch release lever in the full release position and pull ahead with the truck. I don't think it could get any simpler.

Funny to some , not so funny to others sitting somewhere trying to get a hitch to release, user error or not, or just simply having to have everything just right for it to release such as this B&W.

Users of the Superglide have similar issues getting the hitch to release , too much angle its a no go, among other things.

I too will recommend an Andersen hitch at every opportunity, they do not have hitching issues, and I am in the minority here that has used both style of hitches.

That's an awesome tip. I don't think mine has the "jack mode" that is mentioned in a subsequent post.
