If you are new to this, I would double check to make sure the valve on the 2nd bottle is actually open.
Yes, you will be fine using a gas station bottle.
If it is only in the 30's, a good electric space heater should be all you need to keep the trailer warm overnight without moving to the den (in my opinion).
