Pulled the trigger on an XLR Nitro
Well it's been 7 years since I sold my monster 53' 5th wheel and decided that with a job change that I would do the full timer deal for a couple years with my new job.
I searched for a few months for just the right one and after comparing a few of them and calling around the country to different dealers I finally found the one I wanted.
It was tough mainly because I wanted a particular size and most dealers didn't have what I wanted and I didn't have the time to order exactly what I wanted so it was the hunt.
Since I was moving to San Jose from Miami I thought I would buy in California to save having to haul it that far (local pulling if that and I have no intention of pulling any kind of distance). The problem I ran into is that any new coach bought in CA has to have state tax paid in CA (really high) no matter what state it's tagged in. I would get the "we can pull it to NV" speech and then I would have to pull it back into state myself.
Finally two weeks ago I ran across an XLR Nitro 31FQSL that is awesome and the price was great too because it was a Forest River dealer. I paid 39k and the sticker was 57k. Tranport was 3k. It was Funtown RV in Waco TX and they were nice, the service dept was pretty awesome and the walkthrough guy was outstanding, explained things very well and even some hints to make things better (like starting the fridge on gas to cool faster then switch to electric)
I paid a pretty high price to have it transported 2000 miles but even that added to the price was cheaper than a smaller model in CA. Plus the dealer in TX will tag it for me in AR and collected sales tax for AR. Much less expensive and AR has permanant tags so no renewals. Because I"m not going to pull it around doesn't really matter where it's tagged.
Anyway so as stated above it's a 31FQSL which is a bumper pull. I didn't want to go 5th because if I had to move it from one park to another I have a hope of moving this one instead of paying someone to move it for me and it's a little less expensive. It pretty much will max my truck on towing capacity but again not really an issue as I won't be towing.
It's being transported this week so I should be getting it by Friday. I did the walkthrough inspection this past Wed and it was awesome. Can't wait to get moved in and start upgrading :)
I already have a list of things starting with:
washer/dryer unit
replace the radio/speakers
replace the TV (already have a good brand LCD)
replace mattress with real one
Forgot to add that it's got the patio deck in the rear which was a big thing for me so add more floor space (going to add the dometic power awning)
