Don't know about Rams. But on Ford Superdutys (at least newer ones) you can't switch off OD. On my 2012 6.7 3.55 it stays in OD almost all the time on relatively flat highway turning under 2,000 rpm between 65-70. Tow/haul mode takes care of gear choice on any grades.
