Pullrite Super glide hitch

Anybody else have problems unhooking there FW with this hitch? I always have to back up and raise and lower it several times just to unhook(it's worse if there is a slope) its a PITA. Also the 10 degree off center for hooking up is ridiculous. If you have these issues what did you do to solve it or did you just get a new hitch?

  • I had much less problems unhooking with my SuperGlide after I learned to 1) raise the front end with the jacks until the separation between the capture plate and the hitch just begins to be visible then 2) place the truck in neutral to release any bind caused by the hitch pushing against the pin. It is not always done by putting in reverse. That would usually only be if your last move was forward when positioning in the site. If it was backing the trailer, forward might be called for, but usually neutral releases the bind either way. Sloping sites are a special problem. Be sure the wheels are well chocked on the downhill side so your trailer is not pulling/pushing the pin against hitch jaw. You might have to put the truck in gear for these cases. When everything is right, the lever should come out very smoothly.
  • My standard operating procedure is to raise the pin box until I can just see daylight between the pin box skid plate and the 5th wheel on the hitch. Then move the truck back to take the pressure off the wrap-around latch grasping the king pin. I have no idea what the 10 degrees off center for hooking up is.

My friend has the Superglide, he cured his problems like yours, with a Andersen Ultimate fifth Wheel hitch..

Although I have no problems with my Reese manual sliding hitch, I too went with the Andersen hitch, and we both have short bed trucks. No issues with backing or clearance with the Andersen.
