Pullrite Superglide or Demco Hijacker?

I am wondering how close the Reese hitch (center of pin) was to the back of your cab. Some non-slider hitches can be set back over axle center, allowing just over 40"s between pin center and cab. You also have the Andersen option, with a coupler that can be reversed, allowing more clearance. The Pullrite is popular, but heavy, and alignment issues, like you mentioned.

Are you using rails or pucks?

The Ford has the new Puck System. Reese hitch was not adjustable.

I use the Superglide and its awesome..... bolt on a capture plate onto the pin box and roll away !

I'm too new to be a seasoned expert, but I have the Demco and like it. Pretty easy to hitch and unhitch, easy to SEE whether it's hitched correctly. I've put over 20,000 miles on this rig in 3 years and we do get the chucking on bad expansion joints. I'm looking into getting the Air Ride Trailair pin box to help smooth things out.

Pullrite now makes the legs that connect to the Ford pucks. The legs can only can be purchased from Pullrite for ~$400. Take the rail legs off and replace them.

I would think you may also be able to order the hitch with the puck connections. Not sure about that.

I have a Superglide. No issues.

Pullright here for 5yrs and two 5ers. Love it. Have to think about hitching straight on, but that hasn’t been an issue for us in 40k miles and about 25months traveling over last 5yrs. I’d get one again without question.

I've been on this forum for about 15 years, and it appears the consensus is you do not need a slider hitch of any kind. Of course you do not need a back window in your truck either.

I've had the Demco Hijacker for about 4 years. You do have the truck/trailer alignment requirements for hitching or unhitching, but we got used to that quickly. We also get chucking at uneven expansion joints, but I don't think it is caused by the Hijacker.

Ours failed when it was 3 years old. I didn't realize that the hitch head becoming easy to rotate by hand was an indication of excessive internal wear. (Even today, Demco will say that being able to rotate the hitch head by hand is not a reason to be concerned. I think they are wrong about that.)

Demco provided numerous replacement parts at no cost to me (and I installed them) even though the hitch was a year out-of-warranty. Good for them; however, I would not buy another Hijacker having gone thru the one failure already. And if the hitch ever becomes easy to turn by hand again, it will be history.

I use the pullrite as well. It does the job. May not need it since the front cap on my bighorn is cut for turning but my friend’s rig was too and he hit the cab. Better safe than sorry. That said, there are is a lot of slop in the slide, and between the slide and ram puck adapter plate, there is 250 lbs to deal with. I built a lift out of a $50 HF winch and some scrap metal. Works like a charm. I would imagine it’s a Ford vs Chevy thing since all the hitches do the job well. I’m not comfortable with the Anderson conversion so I’ll stick with the pullrite.
