Have since sold the Reese hitch and are looking for an auto-slide hitch. Think we have narrowed it down to Pullrite and Demco.
Pullrite seems to have hitch/unhitching issues, needs separate plate on kingpin, can't tow other 5vr's without plate.
Demco seems to have chucking issues.
What are your recommendations or thoughts? :h
My thoughts, you sound like you have done your homework. I too entertained the idea of the auto slide hitches. Too much baggage with them , can't hitch or unhitch at certain angles , capture plates, heavy etc etc.
Neighbor ,and friend went with the Superglide finally has enough of the temperamental unhitching if at an angle . Prior to that he had the Reese manual slider, and if anyone that has a manual slider , thats a process also. I have a Reese slider, great hitch if you use it.
All that being said, I now have the rail mount Andersen hitch . Two things I already had the Reese manual slider mounted to my bedrails on my previous truck , and wanted to continue with that hitch with my Ram truck with the fifth wheel prep. So I went with picture frame adapter, and my Reese manual slider. Since then I decided I wanted the Andersen, so having the the adapter went with the rail mount Andersen.
You have a couple options ,if you wanted to go the steel rail mount Andersen , go with the adapter to fit your pucks. Option two the aluminum andersen attached to the gooseneck ball.
IMO the steel rail mount is the only way to go, but many like the aluminum .
Again IMO anyone with a short bed truck, the steel mount Andersen with either bed rails or the adapter is the only way to go. It eliminates a slider. Before the Andersen, I had to slide my Reese hitch back to back into my RV pad beside my house , tight fit. With the Andersen , no need, and no clearance problem with the cab with the configuration I have the hitch mounted, as well as the king pin adapter.
