A Pull Rite Super Glide hitch doesn't pivot on the kingpin. The kingpin only locks the trailer to the hitch. The capture plate has a wedge located just behind the kingpin. When you turn the wedge portion forces the entire hitch head to pivot and in doing so it also slides back for extra clearance. Without a capture plate the hitch will not work.
