Threads like this are one reason that I decided to just buy an old camper for practically nothing ($650), tear it down, and build what I want from scratch. I realize not everyone has access to the tools or abilities to do this. But fortunately I do and hope to have a 35ft bumper pull toy hauler built to my specs for under $10k. I would have just started from scratch. But I couldn't find anyone to insure a home-built camper of that size. But they (Progressive) did say they would insure a rebuilt one with a factory title/VIN. So that's basically what I bought for $650, along with some odds and ends like windows, appliances, etc that I intend to re-use.
