Question about height?

I'm a long time rver motor homes and truck campers. I just bought my first 5th wheel. The height is 13'4" at the front AC. My last MH was 11'6". Just curious about problems I might encounter.

Thanks in advance for any advice'

You could come up to some low clearance bridges in your travels.

Here is a list of some.

    Don't be this person. :E

    1) Why is it that those bridges are always in places where you cannot hope to turn around and only appear at rush hour?

    2) Does anyone know the requirements for labeling bridges and overpasses off of the interstates? If a bridge is not labeled, does that mean that it's 14' or higher or does it mean that it just doesn't have a sign?

..and then what? I've been stopped at a few entrances to parks, friends homes, CG roads, residential streets, by a forest of low-hanging branches that I'm sure would have ripped the roof up pretty good. Sometimes the only way out is backing, and that presents a whole other danger.

It's one of my pet peeves of most campgrounds. Tree-trimming is not a high priority (which it should be), and I look around and wonder how some of the bigger rigs got in there. Maybe they haven't yet learned to "look up."

Not to worried about trees and overhangs, you come upon them with time to stop. It's the fast surprises that I'm concerned about.
  • The new Solitude by Grand Design. My TV F-350 was set up for a Lance camper and has air bags on the rear axle. You're not supposed to deflate them all the way so I have approx 20 psi in them. I guess I could lower that some.

  • What do you have that is 13'4"? Mine is 12'6" and so far I have had to avoid only one overpass. By slamming on the brakes and blocking traffic for a while :)
  • We are 13'6" at our highest point. I have never had a problem on interstates BUT once you get off those and onto state or county roads you MUST watch the signs for heights of bridges, gas station over hangs, etc. You might want to visit internet sites listing low clearances, get a truckers atlas listing low clearances and may be even a GPS with height setting. But all in all if you stay observant you should be ok.
