Question on Jayco cargo carrying capacity

We are looking at a 2016 Jayco Pinnacle 38FLSA. Per the Jayco website, the GVWR of that unit is 15,950. Unloaded vehicle weight is 13,505 which should allow for roughly 2,500lbs in cargo. However, the sticker on the unit reads not to exceed 1,492lb of cargo. The unit has a 5,500 onan generator and 10-gallon gas tank. The generator weighs around 250lbs. I also has a residential refrigerator.

Any ideas on why the carrying capacity would be so low?
  • When a mfg adds options the sticker is adjusted for that unit. When a dealer adds options they are part of your cargo.

Water, propane, grey/black tanks, fuel.....it all adds up. 100 gallons of water is 800 pounds.

FWIW, our Big Country weighs 14,000 dry w/ max weight of 16,000. Fully loaded, we have 1,980 lbs of "stuff" for a road ready weight of 15,980! Whew!!

That is a bit of my concern, that the 1,450 would be eaten up quickly
  • I’ll bet there is a disclaimer on the website regarding...everything. Go by the sticker. Gee, my little WInnebago has 3200 pounds of cargo capacity.

  • That seems a low CCC for a FW that size, but if it has enough added options/weight, the 1,500 cap may be correct. I'd go by the sticker on the unit, rather than a web site/brochure number.
