I own the 3221 version for my flatbed truck with recessed ball. I think your question is a good one, so I took a look at mine. The ball coupler sleeve itself protrudes past the bottom plane of the hitch frame, so it definitely will not work. Due to the design and machining of the coupler sleeve, you can't cut it/modify it to work. I know that Andersen sells longer sleeves (I have one), but they perhaps may also sell shorter sleeves. I doubt they would have shorter ones, but it may be worth a phone call. Otherwise, the 3220 would be what you need.
