Some don't realize some of these ratings are based on a short bed two wheel, short bed truck with a 150# driver in the truck...most don't tow with that truck..
Literally the only difference between a the current crop of 2500 and SRW 3500 is the rear suspension (if that). Timbrens or airbags nullify that and then they're both capable of the same thing - same chassis, axles, brakes, drive train, tires and etc. The capability difference kicks in when you hit DRW. I'd say just my opinion, but it's not an opinion.
All of that having been said, if you want to pull 17,000 lbs, in my opinion you need a DRW truck.
