That is the right answer. The ram box like my utility box is 50 inches wide. But while my utility box has a lower height, the ram box is the same height as other truck beds. Any fifth wheel with an extended pin box will hit the sides of the ram box while maneuvering. A straight drop pin box will be ok if the truck has an 8 ft. bed.
Then there is a second issue, depending on design of the hitch, the pin release lever may not have enough clearance with the narrower box. My simple Reese 15k works fine, but I did rotate and re-drill it.
If the truck has a 6.5 ft. bed, then the Reese Revolution (aka Sidewinder) solves the first problem. While it is an extended pin box, it moves the pivot point back under the trailer similar to a straight drop pin box.
