We had the same issue, ending up getting the leg replaced. Not knowing any better we would retract the legs until it cluncked...The gears were all eaten up. To keep it from happening again we painted lines so we stop retracting the legs 2" early. Ours did fail BTW, we could not get it off the truck. The passenger side leg lifted but the drivers side did not.
