norm, you did not say if you have the manual or 48RE auto tranny. With the 19.5" rims and tires pin weight is not an issue for you. Your issue is the need for an exhaust brake and briefing up the 48RE auto tranny a bit for it.
We have towed a 12K+ 5th wheel with a Reg Cab 2001.5 4x4 Dodge 2500 for 9 years. I spent a lot of money for a custom 47RE towing tranny build at 32K on the clock so that I could install an exhaust brake.
If you have a manual then an exhaust brake is easy, however on the auto's it was not until late 2004 or 2005 until then could kept the torque converter locked up for use of an exhaust brake, so it requires an external box to lock the torque converter.
I would not tow the trailer I have without an exhaust brake. The Cummins diesel just does not hold back on grades very well without one.
You have a very capable truck going forward with the air bags and 19.5" rims and tires, however that is just half the issue.
