We have had several of each RL and RK (TT's, 5th wheels, Class C's, Class A's, and TC's) in our 52 years of very extensive RV'ing all over the USA, Canada, and yes Alaska too and won't own another RL (rear living) RV again. Why? Usable true kitchen size and access and having the dinette/dining table right there too, no traffic pattern going thru the kitchen area, all food contained in one area including food spills, heat, and cooking smells which are far more easily vented out directly by opening the kitchen area windows or using the range fan, that's also right where the water heater is usually located meaning instant hot water at the sink and not wasting by running the sink water (filling the gray tank) until the water turns hot, never had any stuff spill out with either RL or RK models in many hundreds of thousands of miles or even over a million miles now RV'ing as you are the one who places the items in and actually closes the cabinet doors or fails to. Look in the mirror!
To some who say they want a big rear window? Didn't you ever notice there are almost always large windows on the sides. Also usually on the wall area that slides out and they look the same direction as the rear window does and also look forward too, DUH! Does your rear window let you also look forward, bet not! Did you even think about these things before you purchased your RV?
We find the center kitchen console/sink to be utterly stupid as it splashes water and food residue all over where you walk and track it around and even worse is that it's in the way and usually blocks entry to 1/2 or more of your RV when the slides are in. Many even block access to the fridge or anything in the kitchen and some models also block use of the toilet without opening one or more slides first. So dumb and a very poor design!
We hear many times the negative comments from RV owners with RL units that ever with RK units. These are from actual owners who experience the good, bad, and the ugly! Do your actual in depth hands on checking and research before buying so you actually purchase the RV unit that fits your needs and wants in actual use so you can avoid much of the disappointments others have had to learn the hard and expensive way!
Yes, we thought it out thoroughly, and that's why we bought a Rear Living. Duh!
