Rear Window Water Leaks

I need some help on window leak issue. Our Newmar 5th wheel has Creation Windows. They went out of business 1 year after our trailer was manufactured.

1. Creation did not cement the 2 outside windows (Fixed--do not open) to the window frame.

2. The rubber molding on the outside contracted. Removed windows 2 times. Done by a professional. $800 expense. They cemented the glass to the frame and used a special caulk to fill in the gap between the glass and the frame.

3. Windows both leak a small amount of water. There is an aluminum channel on the inside where the water collects. It has run out of the channel a few times.

4. We need to resolve the issue. I do NOT want to remove the windows for a 3rd time, but need to seal any gap that I can not locate.

The internet suggests that a positive air system be used to locate the leak. I have no idea where there is a company with a positive fan system.

Other sources on the internet recommend RV Flex Seal in a tube or in a can. Using masking tape and coat the caulked area.

Thanks for any assistance that you can provide.

  • I got the same problem with my 2005 Kountry star. The first time I fix it it do.t work. The second time I crack the glass on one .So I replace the 2 back side with tinted glass.I use the most expensive silicon I can find.It been one year and looks that the problem solve.
  • I had exactly the same problem with my 2006 Crossroads 5th wheel. The rear windows which were fixed and would not open had a channel that would fill up with water and on extreme conditions would run down to the carpet. I fixed this problem myself with the help of some black silicone. I simply ran a bead of the silicone all around the outside edge of the window where it meets the rubber gasket. I was careful not to use too much silicone and then gently smoothed it down with my finger. This was a few years ago and I have never had another leak no mater how much rain falls. The black silicone and black rubber match and unless you look really close you cannot see this simple fix!!
  • RV Leak Detector will not work since it is a seep. Drill the hole might be an answer, but need to make certain that We do not hit the glass. Needs to be in the metal portion of the window.
  • Drill a hole somewhere harmless and give the water a path to run back out?
  • Google "RV Leak Detection" or SealTech. This is when they positive pressurize the RV and spray a bubble solution to the exterior...where there are leaks there will be bubbles observed. You may also check with local RV dealers who do this...but shop for the best price.
