Recommend a 5th Wheel Hitch for a Newbee

Hey out there, My wife and I are moving into a 5th wheel soon and we're so new at this we don't even have our truck yet. That's decided though, F350, 6.7L, single wheel, long wheel base crew cab. We'll be pulling a 16k 5th wheel and likely a 12' to 14' enclosed trailer together. What brand/model of hitch do you recommend? And please give us any suggestions your experience affords. Thanks!
  • Based on your statement you are looking at doing a double tow of a 16K 5er and a 12' to 14' box trailer. will your package come in under 65' total length?

Once I have the RV picked out I can answer that question. I realize that there is a limit to the length I can legally tow. Thank you.

    I vote for B&W, too!

FWIW, with a 16k FW =and= a trailer that long behind it, you're almost certainly going to run into length issues when double-towing. Be =sure= about the lengths before you start spending.

  • Any hitch with this label will work more than satisfactorily.

Do your self a favor and compare all others side by side to these hitches for quality, strength and ease of hitching and unhitching.

  • Any of the name brand hitches are good, B&W, Reese, Pullrite, Curt, etc. Some have multiple price levels of hitches. Just make sure you get one rated high enough for the total weight you intend to pull.

And the Ford factory prep (puck) system works great.

  • With a long bed truck, you have many choices. If you are ordering a new truck, I would recommend ordering the fifth wheel prep kit which will allow just plugging in one of the major brand hitches made for this configuration. This saves modifying your truck after delivery, and it assures that your truck is properly set up for a hitch. (ditto the recommendations just above which was posted as I was writing this)
