REESE BULLDOG 9481 HI-RISE 5TH WHEEL CONVERSION HITCH

REESE BULLDOG 9481 HI-RISE 5TH WHEEL CONVERSION HITCH Replaces B&W Companion

Has anyone used one of these instead of the Companion with there B&W turnover system? Just was wondering if this would be a trusted setup, it is about $200.00 cheaper than the B&W.

Thanks Wes
  • I went with this one.
    What do you think?

  • Hmmmmm......made in America or made in China......:h

That's a tough one.......Alec, I will take "made in America for two hundred dollars, please"

  • It's a beefy looking hitch. I don't have any experience to offer..just research....but if it matters there are a few things that the B&W have going for it.

    1) 20,000 lb trailer weight vs 18 k for the Bull-Dog
    2) Made in the USA vs China for the Bull-Dog
    3) the hitch head on the companion is easier to remove making the hitch easier to come out in two pieces.
    4) the Companions jaws are machined as a matched pair... Not just pulled from a "left jaw" parts bin and a "right jaw" parts bin.

I think in reality though the BullDog is a fine hitch and either would serve you fine. The bulldog does have the single jaw design which some prefer over double jaws.

Side bar question...have you looked at the Andersen Ultimate Fifth wheel? It's about $400.00 less than the companion, and about 100 lbs lighter than either the companion or the bulldog and just as capable.

Here is a link if you are interested.
