Regardless of what Reese and Lippert endorsed, 5 years of engineering school will tell you a longer lever arm will ALWAYS exert more forces. This is exactly what moving the attachment point down to the bottom of the truck bed does.
I had a private message from a Reese employee last year requesting that I stop "bad mouthing" the GooseBox. I ask if he had an engineering degree and to have an engineer contact me. I never heard from an engineer, but he did reply that they had tested the GooseBox and it had not failed. I ask if they had checked stresses in the pin box attachment area of the trailer frame.
I asked if they or Lippert had a mechanical engineer on staff or even on retainer and I never hear from him again.
Yes, you can complain about the TXDOT roads, but having traveled over a large portion of the country, Texas roads are better than a lot of states. It still falls back on the manufacturer of the frame and pinbox to design a product that will not fall apart on the first bad bump.
If you use a GN adapter or an equally bad GooseBox, you are asking to push the limits on the equipment. As for being endorsed by Lippert...well, I do have some ocean front property with the Brooklyn Bridge on it that is located in AZ that I can make you a great deal on.
