Just got back from a 4,000 mile trip with a sidewinder on a Jayco, with a 6.5 bed. I don't have any other 5th experience to compare to. It did seem to track very well around corners - I had visions of taking out every stop sign on the route - never got close, and did not have to pull out of my lane very much.
Backing was easier than my boat. Whether a conventional setup is better, I cannot tell.
It is VERY touchy on the angle you come at it while hooking up/releasing. If your aren't within 1-2 degrees of the pin box, forget about getting it secured, or releasing it at the end of the day. Also makes hooking up interesting when it is not square to the trailer, so you have to back your truck up at an angle. Maybe that's how I punched my 5th with the tailgate corner.....
Instructions tell you where to smear grease on it - FOLLOW THEM. Makes hooking up MUCH easier. Dealer did not grease it after the install. Same happened to a fellow I met at a CG that was also having a hard time hooking up. Grease fixed both.
If I am straight, my hitch never wants to release (Reese R16K) until I do one final back just before to make sure the pin is really 100% forward. But that may be the hitch, and not the Revolution.
So, a bit tempermental to get hooked/unhooked. But I save $$$ and weight, so I'll learn to live with it.
