I also had a hitch with a slide bar. There was no question when looking, to see it was hitched. It also had a locking pin that would not allow the bar to move. The hitch did clunk, when stopping/starting, but was a very safe hitch.
I now have a B&W with the jaws. This jaw thing, just did not seem as safe. After using the B&W, and studying how it functioned, it was obvious that this hitch could not open either, with the handle pinned or locked.
