Removing bugs from front cap

So far the best method I have found is to wet the front cap for ~10min to soften them up, then take a wash mitt with a fabric mesh backing, add some soap and they come off fairly easy. Have tried all kinds of recommended cleaners but keep going back to the mesh wash mitt and soap as I find it the easiest. Anyone else use this method and skip all the fancy/$$ cleaners?

Of course keeping a coat of wax on the front cap helps with bug removal. Many of the cleaners I have seen recommended strip any wax off which is another reason I don't like to use them.

    change your tow vehicle :) I haven't had a bug on my front cap for a few years now

    for the ones on the truck, definitely easier if you hit them when they are fresh; much easier then waiting for them to be baked on and dried out

    We use Rejex on the front cap and we remove the bugs after every travel day (fulltimers). We use our wash brush and less than a gallon of water to brush off the bugs. As long as we do not drag out a hose or a big bucket of soap, we have never been told we could not wash off the bugs. Rejex really helps with the removal.

    No , it does work that good... Well almost that good,, I use Rejex and ran down Florida during Love Bug season without knowing.... I would say that maybe 75%-80% came off with the hose...


    Have used REJEX for many years on RV, motorcycle and Piper Cherokee...it does work that well!

    Agree........ although I don't wax each trip but I do wax the front cap 3-4 times a summer while its hooked to the truck. Standing in the bed makes it a snap.

    I wax my front cap before leaving on a trip. Every time we stop at a new CG part of my setup is to clean the front cap. I just use water and a soft brush. Wetting them down for a few minutes make them easier to come off. Some cleaners will take the wax off.

    I used a whole can of bug and tar remover scrubbing my front cap and after running out and researching how to do it easier I saw a post about the fabric softener. After taking two hours to do half the cap with the bug and tar remover, it took about 15 minutes to do the other half with the fabric sheets. I'll never go back.

    BLECHE-WITE tire cleaner, been using it for years. I have a friend that owns a detail shop and he confided in me that it has been his "magic formula" for years.

    X2 I also grabbed the used ones from the laundry room. Works better than anything I've tried. Afterwards I wax the cap since the dryer sheets are a bit abrasive.
