I've been reluctant to wade into the discussions regarding these fueling station pumps. I have some experience with GPI pumps. I can't speak to any other brands. GPI builds 2 versions of their small pump, the EZ8 and the RV8. If I am not mistaken the difference between between them is the inlet/out casting and the accessories that are package with the pump. The pumps are designed to pump up to 8 gallons per minute with a 3' lift. The flow will be reduced by increasing the lift or decreasing the suction hose size. Reducing the outlet hose size can reduce the flow somewhat, but not a great deal, mostly just an increase in pressure. The EZ8 comes packaged with a 5/8" outlet hose. The RV8 is a bare pump that is sold to manufacturers. I have an RV8 and an EZ8 on my work bench. They use the same pump and motor, but the EZ8 has a 1" inlet where the RV8 is 3/4". The EZ8 also has the nozzle bracket and switch attached to the side of the pump, where the RV8 just has a bracket for the switch.
As to gear issues. I had a conversation with one of GPI's service engineers regarding the gears. While the fuel used may cause some minor swelling of the gears, the engineer stated that they had manufactured the pumps with a slightly oversized gear. These gears were white in color. GPI has stated that they will send a set of the newer grey gears at no charge for those who are having problems. I am not looking to start an argument over pumps, just passing along some of what I've learned.
