Replacement fresh water tank question

Hey Folks,

I have a 40 gal tank and it has cracked around the drain fitting. I have tried to weld it but probably made it worse. My tank fits under the belly just behind the landing gear. It is a large thin rectangle and has large rectangular top edges that hang in the angle iron. Anybody know of a manufacturer that makes tanks like this? All the ones I have searched don't have the top edges like mine.

  • Well all the reading indicates NOTHING will adhere to polyethylene tanks... I put a bit of marine epoxy on a different part of the tank and it's sticking like it's held on with a bolt. Think I'll buy about 5 tube of it and build up a marine epoxy collar from the tank to the abs blade valve fitting.
  • I had to fix some screw hole punctures in my water tank. I used a flat tip on my soldering iron and some clear plastic sandwich bags melted in as filler material. So far it has worked great. You might want to give it a try fixing it yourself again because new tanks can get pretty costly.
  • I welded up my 120 gallon freshwater tank, if it is new enough you might get a replacement BuT mine was 15 years old. I took an old soldering iron 150 wall and silver soldered a stainless pad to the copper of the soldering iron and purchased some rods of the same material and welded it up started by making mistakes and making it larger then it was the got the hang of it and welded a seem on the bottom about 18 in long. and it has been in service for over 2 years and took a 4000 miles trip this year did not leak a drop. May be worth a try. I did have to remove it from the trailer and also added a some support to the tank. Good luck there was not anybody in the Los Angeles area that does this any more.
