Rocky Point Bike Rally

We went down to Rocky Point MX for a few days (Puerto Penasco, officially). Came home yesterday, the 11th. When we crossed the border back into the U.S., there was almost a mile backup to cross over, with at least 1,000 bikes and a heavy mixture of RVs and trucks towing either bikes or buggies, all heading to the Rally. I can't tell you how many THs we saw that were double-towing buggies =behind= the TH. I'd guess that I saw at =least= 6 that were close to 80' OAL; 75' is max here in AZ, and that includes 10' of "overhang" from the center of the rearmost axle to the rearmost point of the overall tow. I mean, a 40+' TH hooked to a LWB dually towing a 15-20' trailer. Crazy! By the time we hit Gila Bend, there had to have been another 1,000 bikers, alone, that passed us. I'd bet that the line ended up being 2 miles long to cross the border and a 3 hour wait.

  • This would be the only type rally I would attend. I'm a Canadian Army vet and a retired Firefighter. I don't like country western music but I love this one.

I guess I don't understand the "be part of the crowd" thing. I do my best to avoid standing in line, being part of the mob, waiting to eat, waiting to use the toilet, etc. Been a motorcyclist for over 55 years, and never been to any of the "must see" motorcycle rallies. I'm headed for the roads less traveled.

    Agree and very well said
